This morning just before 8 a.m., a fatal Las Vegas auto accident occurred at the intersection of East Sahara Avenue and Fremont Street. This appears to be the second accident to occur somewhere on Sahara Avenue in four days, as a Las Vegas auto accident also occurred on West Sahara Avenue on Friday. One tragic difference between the two crashes aside from the specific location, however is that the incident this morning took the life of at least one person.
According to witness accounts, the driver of one of the vehicles ran through a red light at the intersection and and smashed into two or perhaps three other vehicles. One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, but no information is yet available regarding the conditions of anyone else involved in the crash. We'd like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who was killed and hope that this tragedy is somehow overcome with time.
Unfortunately, this Las Vegas auto accident will only add to the troubling trend of statistics regarding these occurrences. More than 250 people are killed every year in auto accidents in the county, and that trend has continued to hold over the past several years. That means that approximately five people every week are killed in auto accidents in Clark County.
