The latest Las Vegas car accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. at the intersection of Jones Boulevard and Harmon Avenue. Apparently, Lillian Jones, 87, of Las Vegas was driving a 2004 Hyundai Accent and was heading south on Jones Boulevard when she attempted to make a left turn onto Harmon Avenue. Cheryl Iacuaniello, 55, of Las Vegas was moving in a northbound direction on Jones Boulevard in a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara.
According to reports, Jones attempted to make that left turn when the Suzuki was approaching, and she smashed into the front left side of Iacuaniello's vehicle. The crash all but destroyed both vehicles and both drivers involved in the crash were rushed to University Medical Center with what authorities described as 'severe' injuries. An investigation is beginning and police will issue further reports when additional evidence is uncovered.
It's our sincere hope that both people involved in this Las Vegas auto accident will be able to overcome their injuries. As it is, the statistics regarding Nevada auto accident fatalities are troubling. Approximately 400 people per year are killed on the Nevada roadways every year, which means that eight people every week suffer an untimely fate in these incidents.
Assuming the facts of the situation are correct, it's likely that the driver of the Suzuki would have a claim against the driver of the Hyundai if she chooses to bring a Las Vegas personal injury lawsuit. The Suzuki would generally have the right-of-way to clear the intersection before the other driver is able to make the left turn, and it's possible that Jones simply did not see or did not properly time her turn.
