According to police, the accident occurred just after 6 a.m. yesterday at the Blue Diamond Road and Interstate 15 interchange. Initially, the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the incident, but OSHA has since stepped in and taken over the jurisdiction of this situation. OSHA immediately closed off the release of any details of the accident, but the work that's being done is a lane-widening project for I-15 that will run from Tropicana Avenue to Silverado Ranch Boulevard.
The name of the man who was killed was not released by officials, but he was described as being 34 years old and had worked for Las Vegas Paving for over five years. The site was shut down for 24 hours in order to perform the initial investigation.
First and foremost, we'd like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the engineer who was killed. Construction site accidents occur all too often, and we're sure that the family is overcome with grief and shock. Unfortunately, this Las Vegas construction site accident will also add to the fatality statistics regarding construction work in the United States. Every year, more than 1,000 workers for private construction firms are killed on the job.
If it's discovered that this man was killed because of the negligence of another worker, because of unreasonably dangerous conditions in the area or because of defective equipment, it's possible for the family of the engineer to bring a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit. However, this decision should only be made with the help of Las Vegas wrongful death lawyers who have years of experience in successfully fighting for the rights of suffering families.
