According to authorities, the latest fatal Las Vegas motorcycle accident took place on Saturday just after 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Bruce Street. 40-year-old Derek Trotter was driving his 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a 36-year-old passenger. Mr. Trotter was traveling west on Lake Mead Boulevard when a 2009 Nissan Versa that was being driven by an 83-year-old man suddenly turned left in front of them. The motorcycle crashed into the right side of the Nissan, killing Trotter at the scene and seriously injuring the woman, who is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
First and foremost, we'd like to extend both our sincere condolences to Mr. Trotter's family and our best wishes to the female passenger in hopes that she is somehow able to recover from her injuries. 40 years old is simply too young to have this occur, and the family and friends of Mr. Trotter are certainly suffering greatly with grief and sadness as a result of this shocking and tragic loss.
Sadly, this most recent Las Vegas motorcycle accident will only add to the statistics regarding fatal Nevada motorcycle accidents . In 2008 alone, 59 people were killed as a result of Nevada motorcycle accidents, and that number has remained above 50 per year since 2004. This equates to at least one person per week who is killed in Nevada motorcycle accidents in each of the past several years.
If it's assumed that the facts leading to this Las Vegas motorcycle accident are accurate, it's possible that the family of Mr. Trotter could bring a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the Nissan and seek damages for medical, funeral and burial expenses as well as other damages. In addition, the passenger on the motorcycle could seek justice by way of a Nevada personal injury claim for damages relating to injuries suffered and pain and suffering.
If you or someone you love has been injured or worse in such an incident, you need the help of Las Vegas motorcycle accident lawyers who have years of experience in successfully obtaining justice for those who have been harmed.
