According to police, the man who was driving the vehicle has been identified as 52-year-old Wayne Morgan. Mr. Morgan was driving a pickup truck in a northbound direction on Boulder Highway on Tuesday at approximately 6:15 a.m. when he collided with the pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road. Specifically, the pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Missouri Avenue, which sits just south of Boulder Highway's intersection with Tropicana Avenue. The pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk and was killed at the scene.
First, we'd like to extend our condolences to the family of the man who was killed. Losing a life in this manner is truly tragic, and the family and friends of the man who was hit are sure to suffer from large amounts of grief and shock. In addition, this fatal Las Vegas pedestrian accident marks the 38th traffic accident fatality in the Las Vegas Metro jurisdiction so far in 2010. If it turns out that the driver was negligent in this situation, it's possible that the family of the man who was killed could file a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit. If successful, the family could be awarded damages that include expenses for medical care, the funeral and the burial as well as damages for lost income and loss of companionship depending on the specifics of the situation.
