Driving any type of a motor vehicle safely depends in part on being able to anticipate the movements and maneuvers of other drivers. Therefore, when someone does something unexpected, it can lead to disaster. This is especially so if a person who is surprised by a movement someone else makes is riding a motorcycle, as he or she is exposed more directly to serious injuries than those riding in other vehicles. While fault has yet to be assigned, one motorist made a surprise move in a Las Vegas motorcycle accident on Saturday that took the life of a young man.
According to authorities, this fatal Las Vegas motorcycle accident occurred on Saturday at approximately 7:20 p.m. when 50-year-old Penny Casey of Gilbert, Arizona was driving in an eastbound direction on Warm Springs Road when she attempted a U-turn at the intersection of Spencer Street. When she did so, she turned directly into the path of an oncoming motorcycle being driven by a 23-year-old man who has not been identified. The rider attempted to brake but put his bike down and collided with the side of the other vehicle. He did not survive the crash.
First and foremost, we'd like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young man who was killed. Losing a life in such a random and violent manner and at such a young age is truly tragic. In addition, this Las Vegas motorcycle accident, which represents the 11th traffic fatality in the jurisdiction so far in 2011, will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Nevada motorcycle accidents. Every year, approximately one person every week is killed in these crashes across the state.
While no fault has been assigned with finality in this Las Vegas motorcycle accident, if it turns out that the driver of the larger vehicle caused this crash, it could lead to the filing of a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit against the driver. If such a lawsuit is filed and is successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensates the family for their medical, funeral and burial costs as well as their lost income and their loss of companionship.
If you have lost someone you love in a crash, you need to seek the help of Las Vegas wrongful death lawyers who have been holding those responsible for this type of harm accountable for many years. Contact Jack Bernstein & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
