Motorcyclist Killed in Multiple-Vehicle Crash

"A three-vehicle collision Monday evening left one motorcyclist dead, another with serious injuries and a pickup truck driver jailed in connection with leaving the scene of the crash.

Metro Police responded to the crash at 8:13 p.m. at the intersection of Eastern and Maule avenues, which is south of Sunset Road adjacent to Sunset Park.

Investigators said two Yamaha motorcycles were traveling southbound on Eastern at a high rate of speed north of Maule. A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was eastbound on Maule, stopped at a stop sign at Eastern, police said.

As the pickup turned into the southbound lanes of Eastern, it was struck by the 1999 Yamaha motorcycle, which fell onto its side and slid southbound on Eastern, police said. A 2001 motorcycle also fell over onto its side, authorities said."
