Most people, when asked, would likely assume that driving in an urban environment with more traffic and congestion is as dangerous as it gets for motorists. While that's a natural conclusion to draw given the obvious risks that are encountered on city streets and in heavy traffic, a recent study has led to a surprised reaction by many. This study concluded that the rate of Nevada car accidents that occur on rural roads is actually much higher than those that occur in busy urban environments.
According to a report published that is entitled, Rural Connections: Challenges and Opportunities in America’s Heartland, performed by TRIP, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C., Nevada car accidents on rural roads occur with more frequency. Clearly, the raw number of Nevada car accidents that occur on rural roads is lower than those that occur in cities, but the percentage and rate of these crashes is higher. Specifically, Nevada had a fatality rate of 2.33 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles driven in 2009 in rural environments compared to a rate of 0.98 deaths per 100 million miles on city streets.
What this report should tell anyone is that there is risk involved with travel no matter where someone happens to be driving. This information tends to fall into line with the overall statistics regarding Nevada car accidents. While the fatality rate has been falling in recent years, 243 people were killed in Nevada car accidents in 2009. Of those fatalities, 73, or approximately 30 percent, occurred on non-Interstate roads. This does not take into account the thousands of people who are injured in these crashes every year.
When a Nevada car accident occurs and it's the result of the negligence or recklessness of a motorist, the person or people who have been injured have legal rights and options as a result. These rights include the possibility of filing a Nevada personal injury lawsuit against the motorist at fault. If such a claim is filed and it's successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensates the injured party for his or her losses.
If you or someone you love has been harmed in this manner, you need to seek the help of Nevada car accident lawyers who have been fighting for the rights of the injured for many years. Contact Jack Bernstein & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
