According to police, the latest suspected fatal Henderson DUI accident occurred just after 11 p.m. on Saturday night when 26-year-old Summer D. Mackie, 26, of Henderson lost control of her Toyota SUV at McCormick Road near Galleria Drive. As a result of this loss of control, the vehicle left the roadway, crashed over a barrier wall, rolled down a 25-foot embankment and crashed into another wall before coming to rest. 28-year-old Shanna LePelusa of Henderson was a passenger in the vehicle, and she was ejected in the crash and was killed.
First and foremost, we'd like to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young woman who was killed. Losing a life at 28 is always a tragedy, and we hope that justice is served in this situation. In addition, this suspected fatal Henderson DUI accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Nevada car accidents. Every year, approximately 400 people are killed in crashes, and about one-third of these crashes list alcohol as a factor.
In addition to the serious criminal charges that the driver will face, it's also possible for the family of the woman who was killed to file a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit . If such a lawsuit is filed and is successful, it could lead to a damages award that compensates family members for medical, funeral and burial costs as well as lost income and loss of companionship.
If you or someone you love has been injured by a drunk driver, you need to seek the help of Henderson DUI accident lawyers who have been holding those responsible for these actions accountable for many years. Contact Jack Bernstein & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
