We see UPS and other company delivery trucks all the time in residential areas, and most of the time we don't give them a second thought unless they come to our doors. However, there is danger involved with sharing the roads with these vehicles even in residential areas. Tragically, that reality was reinforced last week when a woman was hit and killed by a UPS truck in a Las Vegas pedestrian accident. Police are still investigating the incident.
According to the authorities, this fatal Las Vegas pedestrian accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at just before 3:15 p.m. A 69-year-old woman was believed to have been out getting her mail on 2500 block of Swan Ridge Avenue near Wigwam Parkway and Eastern Avenue. The driver of the truck had just climbed back into his vehicle and began to roll forward when he heard the collision. He remained on the scene and the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
First and foremost, we'd like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who was killed in this fatal Las Vegas pedestrian accident. Losing a life in such a terrible accident is always truly tragic. In addition, this crash will now become part of the overall statistics regarding fatal Nevada pedestrian accidents. Every year, approximately 50 people are killed somewhere in the state in these types of incidents.
It seems that more information would be useful in helping to determine a theory of fault for this fatal Las Vegas pedestrian accident. If it turns out that the driver was at fault, it could lead to the filing of a Nevada wrongful death lawsuit against the driver and his employer. If such a case is filed and it's successful, the family could recover damages that compensate them for their losses.
