Home to Tragedies - Another Person Dies in Accident on Blue Diamond Road

new_york_pedestrian_accidentIn every city there are streets and intersections that become notorious over time because of the number of accidents that occur there. Locals generally learn of these reputations and make sure to pay extra attention when they come near these areas, although that obviously does not prevent all accidents from occurring. Las Vegas has a road that seems to be earning more notoriety by the day, and tragically the street known by some as "death highway" was once again the location where a person was killed in an accident. According to several reports, including one that can be found here, a 14-year-old girl was killed as she attempted to cross Blue Diamond Road at the intersection with South Cimarron Road. The girl was attempting to cross with two friends when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. She did not survive but the driver was not arrested because police indicated that she was not in the crosswalk at the time. A link to the intersection can be found here, and as can be seen there is no traffic signal controlling the intersection and there is no marked crosswalk. Police are continuing to investigate the accident. First and foremost, we'd like to express our most sincere condolences for the family and friends of the young girl who was killed in this Las Vegas pedestrian accident. This is the 10th person to lose his or her life on Blue Diamond Road this year, and this crash will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Nevada pedestrian accidents. Every year, more than 800 of these accidents occur, and they lead to more than 500 injuries and to nearly 50 fatalities. Whenever pedestrians and motorists attempt to share an intersection that does not have much in the way of controls such as crosswalks and electronic traffic signals, everyone needs to make sure to follow all relevant traffic laws in order to avoid disaster. If even one person makes the slightest mistake, it can immediately lead to a crash that results in serious injuries or fatalities. Other than stating that the girl was not in the crosswalk at the time she was hit, very little information is available with regards to what exactly happened. When families suddenly lose a loved one in this tragic manner, they often find themselves reeling as they are overcome with grief and sadness. This sudden grief strikes families nearly 300 times per year in Nevada, as that's how many people are killed in all types of crashes. Those who find themselves in this situation may not want to delve into the legalities of the crashes because they simply want to work through their emotions and move on with their lives. If you have lost someone you love in an accident that was caused by someone else, you need to take some time to evaluate your legal rights and options.
