Two Killed in Valley View Crash

A crash on Valley View Drive just north of Desert Inn Road led to two deaths and two injuries, according to recent reports. Michael Don Tavis Savery, 27, and Eberado Jamarillo-Pedrasa, 27, were killed when a motorcycle, traveling north on Valley View, hit a sedan attempting to make a left turn from Capella. The motorcycle ended up under the car, flipped by the force of its impact. Authorities say the speed of the motorcycle played a role in the severity of the accident. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, the driver of the car was also killed, while a female passenger and baby were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The baby was actually ejected from the car but fortunately did not suffer serious injuries.

Motorcycle and Car Accident Facts

This accident features some unusual aspects in that the driver of the sedan was killed and the baby, although ejected from the car, survived. In most cases involving motorcycle-car accidents, the motorcycle driver is seriously injured or killed but the car driver is not. Additionally, ejections almost always result in serious injury or death for the victim. So far this year, there were 20 motorcycle deaths through December 9, according to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department's records. This was a 31 percent decrease over 2013's figures, when 29 people died in motorcycle crashes. However, this week's death increases the total, and it will be impossible to know until December 31 how close this year's death rate will be to last year's. No matter what the final total, however, motorcycle deaths have already accounted for at least 25 percent of all the traffic fatalities this year. While speed and other factors may contribute to motorcycle accident deaths, in many cases the motorcycle rider is not at fault. When this happens, the rider may need help collecting compensation from the car driver, as some tend to blame motorcyclists for almost all accidents. Insurance companies and others may try to deny these riders fair compensation for their injuries.
