Danger Of Improper Driving

Automobile accidents are responsible for thousands of deaths every year. According to one source, there were more than 35,000 traffic-related fatalities and 3.7 million crashes in the United States in 2013. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1,153 people are hurt in automobile accidents every day; this translates to almost half a million injuries every year. Some of the reasons for motor vehicle accidents are:
  • A driver taking his or her eyes off the road
  • Intoxication
  • A driver's hands slipping off the steering wheel
  • A driver allowing himself or herself to daydream or otherwise be distracted
  • A driver talking or texting on a cellphone
Nevada takes reckless driving seriously, seeking to protect victims and punish offenders. A motorist may face criminal charges if he or she is cited for a vehicle accident resulting in another person's death or serious injury. Penalties can range from fines to loss of driver's license to imprisonment. Those found guilty of causing a fatal automobile crash may also face civil action from a victim's surviving family members.
